SPITFIRES

John has a large collection of postcards of aircraft.
Here is a collection of Douglas DC - 3s & one Curtis Commando.
The quality is not exceptional, but they are an interesting lot of images.
The descriptions on the back of the postcards have also been copied.

The Darwin based Air North took delivery of this DC-3, the first of two, in late 1983. Depicted here at Bankstown Airport in Sydney after painting & registration, this airplane was previously operated by Setair as VH-MWQ. That registration was applied when the aircraft was purchased from Air Nuigini by Masling Airlines in 1977. It had been P2-ANS in Papua New Guinea. Whilst in service with Masling Airlines & based in Sydney, it was often chartered by Aironautica for Aviation enthusiasts Air Experience Flights over the city.

After WW II, this aircraft was registered as NC58093 in the USA, before purchase as Cathay Pacific Airways first ever airplane becoming VR-HDB. The Cathay crews called her 'Betsy'. During 1973, this fine airplane was purchased by Bush Pilots Airways of Cairns, Queensland. This company later renamed as Air Queensland & operated this airplane as a freighter. In 1983, she was re-purchased by Cathay Pacific Airways; restored to her original color scheme & registration; then flown back to Hong Kong for preservation at a museum.

Looking like a million dollars just after her repaint in the (southern) autumn of 1984 is the lead ship of the Rebel Air fleet of 3 DC-3 airplanes. Originally built for the USAF in 1943, this aircraft was handed over to the RAAF in December of that year as A65-21. In 1958 she was registered as VH-EWB after the purchase the year earlier by East-West Airlines of Tamworth, NSW. Then came the re-registration as VH-PWM in 1967. In 1973 Connair of Alice Springs acquired the airplane & then sold her in1979 to current operators Rebel Air. This color scheme is the second official color scheme of Rebel Air & the other 2 airplanes in the fleet will be repainted into this scheme in due course. Theya re currently seen in the basic color scheme of their former operator Setair but with Rebel Air titles.
